World Class People Professionals

The SHRM Foundation advances the HR profession and enhances our professional knowledge and competencies. Through gifts, the Foundation funds leading edge research, practical publications, and a wide range of educational initiatives--including scholarships for working SHRM members.

Our goal is World Class People Professionals!

The SHRM Foundation:

  • is a 501 (c)(3) charitable, not-for-profit organization that operates as the research and development arm of the HR profession.
  • advances the profession and enhances the knowledge and competency of HR professionals through its funding of research, publications and educational programs.
  • is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors from the HR profession. It includes academics, practitioners and representatives from the Society for Human Resource Management.
  • is supported by tax deductible contributions from individuals, companies and organizations. The Foundation recognizes all contributors in its Annual Report and in a special insert in HR News, and in other materials.
  • funds major research projects that have a direct and practical impact in advancing the profession. It no longer funds doctoral dissertations.
  • funds practical publications on specific issues (such as Issues on Employee Leave). And supports scholarships, SHRM chapter educational matching grants and other educational initiatives.

Q- I pay dues to SHRM. Why don't my dues support the Foundation?

A- The SHRM Foundation is a separate 501©(3) charitable, not-for-profit organization. As the research and development are of our profession, the Foundation depends upon annual contributions to build endowment, fund research, publications, scholarships and other important programs.

Q- Do SHRM Chapters and State Councils support the Foundation?

A- In 2000, 342 SHRM chapters and 44 state councils contributed to the SHRM Foundation Annual Campaign. Chapters and state councils can make a pledge now and pay later in the year. Chapters receive points towards a Superior Merit Award for their contribution.

Q- Is my individual contribution important?

A- Absolutely! Did you ever hear the famous saying: "charity begins at home"? When you give to the SHRM Foundation, you support your profession and invest in your own future. You also help many people by creating vital and effective workplaces through solid HR research. So, please include the SHRM Foundation in your list of charitable contributions this year.

Q- How much should I give? And do I receive anything for my gift?

A- The donor recognition categories are a helpful giving guide. However, the amount you give is up to you. Your gift is tax-deductible. You will be recognized in HR News, the SHRM Foundation Annual Report and other materials. You'll also receive a beautiful, cloisonne Foundation lapel pin. Possibly win the HR Panda Bear, and a trip for two to the 2002 Kentucky Derby donated by William M. Mercer Company. You'll advance the profession and your future. Help a lot of people. And you'll feel good about yourself!
